Durham board proclaims National EMS Week and hears county cardiac-arrest survival data

The board accepted a proclamation recognizing National EMS Week (May 17-23) and representatives from Durham County EMS and the Office of Emergency Services described the county's emergency-response system and data. A planning and operations speaker cited the Utstein metric for a specific cardiac-arrest cohort and said, "in Durham County, we have a 74 percent save rate when we have 1 of those scenarios," adding that three out of four qualifying patients go home alive.
Commissioners individually thanked EMS crews, dispatchers and partner agencies for their work responding to critical incidents and noted the emotional and operational demands of emergency response. Manager and commissioners emphasized the importance of continued support and training; the proclamation was adopted by unanimous consent.
