At the Oct. 13 meeting the board took first reading of proposed revisions to the employee complaint policy (Item 24a). Among the changes discussed were increasing the informal resolution period from 10 days to 21 days and clarifying that complaint hearings will default to closed session to protect confidentiality.
A trustee asked whether the board could decline to hear an appeal; legal counsel replied that the draft was revised to ensure appeals go to the full board at a regular or special meeting and that the board would not simply uphold a superintendent/designee’s finding "without hearing the complaint." Trustees asked that the language explicitly preserve notice and opportunity to be heard so board members would have the full appeal record when considering a matter.
