Novato High students demonstrate medical-career pathway skills, describe EMT clinical plans

Dr. Siddiqui described partnerships with College of Marin, Kaiser Permanente and local research partners and emphasized that the MCP is a single‑discipline pathway offering dual‑enrollment college courses on the high‑school campus. Students said the program gives them hands‑on skills and real clinical experience: "I like MCP because we we do a lot of hand on learning," freshman Ayla said during the presentation. Seniors described plans for spring clinical rotations that include 12‑hour ambulance shifts and at least three patient contacts in real settings.
Students reported strong outcomes from early cohorts, including internships and jobs in health‑care settings and an eight‑day medical trip to Panama that students said provided direct clinical exposure. Dr. Siddiqui said the program sequence and early‑college credits mean students who continue at College of Marin may need only one additional course to complete an AA in related fields.
Trustees asked about class scheduling and program capacity; staff said MCP currently serves about 114 students (equivalent to 1.6 FTE high‑school classes) and combines high‑school teacher instruction with college faculty on campus. The board did not take action; trustees thanked students for the demonstration and outcomes.
