The council unanimously approved a resolution allowing the city to seek an exemption to the usual CalPERS post-retirement waiting period and to execute an employment agreement with retired Finance Director Michael Scheck to fill a critical interim need.
City Administrator Rosanna explained the city will welcome new Finance Director Kiran Bawa in early July but has a gap of roughly 60 days; staff worked with CalPERS to confirm procedures that make a short interim hire feasible in a finite window. The council moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by voice vote; staff will finalize documentation and the city administrator was authorized to execute necessary paperwork.
