PUSD asks council for caution on Bonita drop-off changes as Havens nears capacity

Piedmont Unified School District officials told the council they appreciate the work on parking but asked for care in removing the Bonita drop-off area that many families use. Superintendent Jennifer Hahn said Havens Elementary is projected to enroll about 477 students and possibly more if an additional kindergarten section is required; she said condensing drop-off activity could increase congestion and asked the city to collaborate on communications, crossing guards and potential changes to pickup and drop-off windows.
Hahn and facilities director Pete Palmer urged that some spaces near Magnolia and the pool remain available for deliveries and school operations (food service, buses and large trucks), and that any conversion of drop-off areas into two-hour parking consider the district's early-morning deliveries and afternoon pickup needs. The council acknowledged the district's operational needs and directed staff to coordinate communications and to examine short-duration spots for parents where practicable.
