Norwalk-La Mirada board elects new president and vice president in annual reorganization

The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District board completed its annual reorganization on Dec. 8, electing a new president and vice president and receiving remarks from the outgoing president and invited dignitaries.

During the meeting the board nominated a candidate for president and approved the motion by roll call. The board then held the vice president election by the same process; the motion passed with one recorded dissent and otherwise carried by roll call. "Motion carries," the clerk announced after the roll call confirmed the vote.

The outgoing president delivered a brief reflection on the year and thanked family and colleagues. Board members and guests — including an assemblywoman and a representative from Cerritos College — offered congratulations and underscored priorities such as accessibility, fiscal stewardship and staff engagement. The board also signaled that the incoming leadership will emphasize early learning and community outreach, including monthly school-site town halls beginning in January.

Board members said the reorganization was brief and procedural; the new president and vice president will assume duties immediately for the coming year. The board took photographs at the dais and then moved to committee appointments and the consent calendar.
