Residents warn Bonita changes could shift parking burdens, raise safety risks

Several residents who live on or near Bonita and Hillside told the council they strongly object to reallocating undesignated spaces and converting local employee parking, saying the result would make it harder to reach their driveways and would create frequent double-parking by delivery and service vehicles.
Patsy Kao, who said she lives on the 300 block of Bonita, told the council: "I'm gonna have to go an extra 3.5 blocks," describing how the proposed changes could add time and circulation difficulties for residents. Other commenters, including Andy Rose and Marsha Lane, urged delaying major changes until further study or traffic analysis and pleaded for protections for residents who rely on currently undesignated curb space. Fire Chief Dave Brannigan and Public Works staff said they had tested emergency apparatus access and measured travel widths and found access feasible; Brannigan noted the one-way option examined was within tested clearances and that the department had successfully negotiated turns in field tests. The council adopted the plan with amendments but asked staff to prioritize notifications and to monitor safety and access in the months ahead.
