University Place updates six‑year transportation plan; Chambers Creek roundabout gets $300,000 federal boost

Major changes in this cycle included removing the UP School Crosswalk Improvement Project from the TIP because it is now underway, updating costs across the program and noting a new federal appropriation: "We received the additional federal appropriation of $300,000" toward the Chambers Creek Road roundabout, Eklund said. He also said the right‑of‑way acquisition schedule for Drexler Drive South has been advanced for 2027.
Eklund clarified that TIP adoption does not commit the city to immediate spending; each project still requires later budgetary review and CIP inclusion. He described the TIP as a planning‑level estimate and explained the city will tailor project priorities to available grant programs, noting that grant criteria vary and may favor different classifications of streets or project types. Council members asked about prioritization, coordination with neighboring Fircrest, and options for interim improvements on roads listed for full rebuilds.
