Justine Young, CEO of Piedmont Senior Resources and head of the area agency on aging, asked the Nottoway Board of Supervisors for a $2,500 county contribution to help host a Remote Area Medical (RAM) event scheduled for March 28'29.
Young described RAM as a nonprofit clinic providing free dental, vision and primary medical care on a first-come, first-served basis; she said the closest similar event typically attracts roughly 1,700 people. She explained the organizers must raise about $36,000 to house and feed volunteer clinicians, buy supplies and pay logistical costs. "We are in charge of raising the funds for this event," Young said. "So far we've secured a $10,000 grant from Centra Health and $5,000 from another entity, but we need partners to make it happen."
Board members asked about outreach and coordination with social services; Young said details about follow-up care and the list of services would be available after Christmas. The board placed the item on unfinished business and indicated members would consider an allocation during budget discussions.
