Planning Commission reviews Bay High School addition plans including new entries and secured vestibule

The City of Bay Village Planning Commission held a public hearing May 6 on a resubmission for Bay High School at 29230 Wolf Road that would add two new entry points, a new administrative suite adjacent to a secured vestibule, expanded lobby space to enable after-hours cafeteria access, and circulation improvements to the auditorium and gymnasium. "I'm Paul Romanek with GPD," the project representative said, and he described renderings showing two-tone brick, optional stone cladding as a bid alternate, and interior lobby plans.

Romanek said the design aims to make arrival points clearer and to control visitor access: "So we're really trying to present a statement of entry so that people know how to come into the building and that they've arrived at Bay High School." He described plans to open a set of five arches to provide direct access into the auditorium, add restrooms near the new lobby so visitors do not circulate through the entire building, and screen the cafeteria service courtyard to hide utilities such as the generator and gas meter from view.

Commissioners asked about aesthetics and materials, noting the proposed red brick and how it relates to school branding, and they discussed how event and athletic entrances would be used during concurrent activities. The applicant said signage and any main school signage would return for review by the commission. The resubmission was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote later in the meeting.
