Union City councilors approve conditional switch of health insurer pending termination costs

Councilors authorized a conditional change to the borough’s health insurance provider for 2025 pending final termination/run-out cost estimates. Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported that she and Councilor Brian Osborn met with Municipal Benefit Services and will receive updated rate information on Oct. 15; Wells said switching from the current plan could save "$13,730/year" but there would be termination costs that must be weighed.
Councilor Brian Osborn moved and Councilor Steadman seconded a motion "TO CHANGE HEALTH INSURANCE PROVIDERS FOR 2025 IF THE ESTIMATED TERMINATION COSTS WOULDN’T EXCEED 42,000.00." The minutes note that Riley Cross and James Kerns abstained from the vote; the motion was recorded as carried. The minutes do not include final run-out estimates or the names of alternate plan carriers beyond references to Benecon and MBS.
