Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council that he has been unable to contact the new hire approved at the previous meeting and is assuming the candidate is no longer interested. "There are only 32 candidates on the list," Pernice said, and he plans to reach out to the consortium and the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams.
Pernice said the department would like to hire two part-time officers but that only one part-time position was approved by council. Council agreed to continue the search for a single part-time officer while the chief pursues outreach and testing through the Civil Service process.
