Bedford Council appoints Bill Carter as interim Town Clerk; vote unanimous

Chair Greazzo said Carter was selected after a job posting that drew seven applications and five interviews; the Council noted Carter’s six years on the Town Council (two as chair) and cited his experience with elections and process management. Councilor Soule moved the appointment; a roll-call vote was recorded as Strand—aye, Fahey—aye, Bator—aye, Soule—aye, Levesque—aye, Greazzo—aye, and the motion passed 6–0.
After the vote, Carter thanked the Council and said, “I have a lot of work to do, but I have a supportive team that will help me get into that spot and be ready to go, especially with two elections coming up this year.” He said he looks forward to working with department heads and staff to ensure well-run elections.
Why it matters: The interim appointment ensures the Town has a clerk in place for upcoming election administration. The Council said it may return with a request to establish a dedicated fund for REC revenue and likewise will integrate the clerk into operational planning before the next election.
