Piedmont counseling team outlines college-and-career services and data plans

The Piedmont High School counseling team presented a detailed overview of college and career services, including year‑by‑year counseling priorities, the district’s use of the Naviance platform, and a calendar of events such as community college night, financial‑aid night and a mini college fair.
Assistant Principal Joe Merrick opened the presentation and introduced college‑and‑career staff. Mona LaFleur and other counselors described services for each grade level and the team’s efforts to integrate academic, social‑emotional and college guidance. The presentation highlighted tools counselors use to help students explore majors, scholarships and match colleges.
Presenters said matriculation and application data will be formally collected in May and noted much of the data is self‑reported by students via Naviance; the counselors said previous years’ school profiles show typical destination patterns (for example, a notable share of students enroll in UC/CSU systems and out‑of‑state schools). Parents, students and board members asked about timing of calendars, who manages college relationships, and how counselors evaluate successful outcomes. Staff said parent volunteers help with logistics and Stephanie (college and career center director) is the point person for college visits.
