At the public comment portion of the May 13 meeting, Ruskin parent Tina de Vera urged the board to secure an additional full-time front-office clerk for Ruskin, describing the current staffing shortfall and its impact on daily operations.
"Ruskin serves over 710 students," de Vera said, describing how two staff (one clerk and one secretary) are managing gate access, attendance, phones and health-clerk duties and saying the workload was not "sustainable for our Ruskin community." She asked the board to ensure the hiring contract for an additional clerk is completed and secure.
De Vera said rotating assistant principals have helped but are not a substitute for permanent front-office support. Board members thanked her for the request and noted that additional hours had already been granted this school year; she asked the district to finalize the position for the coming school year.
The board did not take an immediate personnel vote during the public-comment period; the staffing request will be considered within staffing and budget planning for 2026–27.
