City staff outlined proposed changes to taxi rates inside the city and said a resolution to set a public hearing will appear on March 24, with the hearing scheduled for April 14. Proposed changes include raising the base midnight-to-4:59 a.m. fare from $6 to $8, increasing other base fares (for example, $7 to $9 in another band), raising the additional-passenger fee from $1 to $2, setting a $2 senior discount off the base fare, and eliminating the baggage fee.
Staff said the city would present the resolution to set a public hearing on March 24 and that implementation would follow police coordination to update meters and signage; councilors encouraged a quicker implementation timeline if possible and staff said they would try to accelerate the schedule.
