Committee introduces ordinance requiring referendum for shared-service deals over $500,000

Carneys Point Township introduced Ordinance 2025-1077 on Nov. 17, which would require a nonbinding public referendum for certain shared-services agreements that exceed $500,000.
Mayor Brown said the measure would apply to shared-service arrangements above the $500,000 threshold and that such matters would be placed on a nonbinding referendum. Mr. Pelura moved to introduce the ordinance, Mrs. Shaw seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. A member of the public later asked about the ordinance; Mayor Brown reiterated that the referendum requirement applies when another township seeks a shared service over the specified amount.
