District outlines MTSS, PBIS and SEL rollout for next school year

At the LCAP presentation staff described plans to align multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) with positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) across the district. Dr. McCreery said the county office will partner in walk-throughs and cohort-based coaching: schools will be grouped into three cohorts for targeted observation and professional development, and training sessions will include teachers and classified staff on PBIS and MTSS implementation.
The district will pilot the Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum at elementary sites with summer school teachers and provide targeted professional development for school psychologists, social workers and middle-school counselors to align roles across sites. "We're actually hoping to align the MTSS work with PBIS," Dr. McCreery said, adding that the district has a contract on the board agenda for county coaching support.
