Board reviews LCAP goals, cites improved attendance and lower suspensions

The Berryessa Union Elementary Board of Trustees spent the first portion of its June 17 special session on a study session for the district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the 2026-27 school year. Assistant Superintendent of Education Services Dr. McCreery told trustees the district solicited input from principals, BDAC, DELAC, an LCAP committee and online surveys, and that staff visited all 10 schools as part of stakeholder engagement.
Dr. McCreery presented three LCAP goals for next year: "ensuring a safe and productive learning environment," improving student achievement through aligned instruction and technology, and increasing parent and community involvement. He highlighted metrics tied to Goal 1: attendance around 95%, chronic absenteeism dropping from 16.2% to 11.7% (a 4.5 percentage-point decrease) and a suspension rate decline from 1.6 to 0.8 overall. "All of our action items are aligning positively with our stakeholders," he said.
The presentation also described planned district actions including county-office-led PBIS and MTSS walk-throughs, summer training for teachers to pilot a new SEL curriculum (Second Step), and continued rollout of early-literacy screeners and MARS math performance tasks. Dr. McCreery told the board the LCAP is under review by the county office; staff expect a final draft the following Wednesday and will respond to clarifying questions from the county within 24 hours.
