Board hears that school-safety and transportation allotments fall short of costs; insurance aid reduces but does not eliminate gap
Summary
Staff said the school-safety allotment covered roughly $310,000 while expenditures exceeded $1,000,000, and transportation costs were about $2.2—$2.3M versus a roughly $365,000 transportation allotment; regional insurance aid and vendor changes reduced windstorm costs but operating gaps persist.

Finance staff told trustees that the school-safety allotment and transportation allotments do not cover current expenses. The presentation said the district had spent about $1,000,000 on school-safety-related costs through June 2026 while the allotment received was about $310,000, and that transportation operations cost roughly $2.2—$2.3 million while allotment receipts approximate $365,000.
Staff credited recent regional insurance aid and a vendor change for lowering windstorm exposure and producing about $1.5 million in offsetting aid—but trustees said other insurance and utility costs remain and that surplus revenues historically flow to teacher-pay increases rather than covering structural operating increases. Board members asked staff to quantify all state funding sources and program-driven cost increases to present a clear case to lawmakers.
