City of Southgate Council approved three tax-rate ordinances on second reading during its Sept. 3 meeting, setting the real property rate at .529 per $100 and the tangible property rate at .435 per $100 and affirming separate rates for firehouse and motor-vehicle/boat levies.
City Clerk Barton read the proposed rates aloud: "City Clerk Barton read the proposed tax rates for real property .529 per $100 and tangible property .435 per $100." Each ordinance on second reading (Ordinance 25-07, Ordinance 25-08 and Ordinance 25-09) was advanced with a motion and carried by a 6–0 roll-call vote: Ordinance 25-07 (Motion/Second: Melville/Okura; Aye 6 Nay 0), Ordinance 25-08 (Motion/Second: Curry/Hartman; Aye 6 Nay 0) and Ordinance 25-09 (Motion/Second: Melville/Okura; Aye 6 Nay 0).
The council recorded no dissent and provided no additional amendments when the city attorney presented the ordinances. Finance Director/Treasurer Edgley discussed returns from the KLC investment bonds earlier in the meeting, information council members said they reviewed while approving the July financials.
The ordinances were adopted as read; the council did not specify effective dates during the meeting and staff did not provide a detailed levy impact analysis during the session. Any implementation timeline or assessment notices will be posted by city administrative staff following formal publication.
