Assistant Superintendent Michelle Martin presented a memo asking the board to approve surplus library books at Carbondale Middle School that are no longer checked out by students so the district can make room for current titles and offer the older books to community organizations. The board approved the surplus list by roll call vote.
Martin also summarized STAR spring benchmark assessment administration and how results feed into school improvement planning. Building administrators prepared school improvement plans required by the Illinois State Board of Education for any district receiving targeted or comprehensive designations; the board approved the plans for Parrish, Thomas, Lewis and Carbondale Middle School.
The board conducted second readings and approved multiple PRESS policies and related draft updates covering areas such as meeting procedures, public records, grievance procedures, student health, admissions and extracurricular conduct. These policy updates passed by voice vote.
