Carbondale district to analyze Thomas School foundation issues after GPRS testing; temporary modular removal planned

District administrators told the board that follow-up ground-penetrating radar (GPRS) testing at Thomas School has been completed and that the resulting report has been forwarded to the engineering team for analysis and recommendations to determine the source of a foundation issue.
Chief School Business Official Janiece Blake also said the current Thomas modular was disassembled and that a metal storage container was placed on site to hold items until a new modular arrives. Blake reported the district is on schedule for the new modular to be in place before the start of the school year. The GPRS testing was described as a follow-up to an earlier walkthrough and aims to provide more extensive data to evaluate options for remediation.
The board did not take a final action on capital repairs at the meeting; staff noted that engineers will review the GPRS report and return recommendations for any required work and associated costs.
