Weinstein elected Board president; Chase named clerk as trustees set 2026 meeting schedule

At its Dec. 17 organizational meeting the Sulphur Springs Union School District Board elected Shelley Weinstein president, Ken Chase clerk and Denis DeFigueiredo presiding officer for 2025–26, and designated Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi as board secretary. Each vote passed 4–0 with one trustee absent.
Shelley Weinstein was elected president of the Sulphur Springs Union School District Board of Trustees for the 2025–26 term in a vote taken during the Board's Annual Organizational Meeting Dec. 17. The motion to elect Weinstein was made by Trustee Ken Chase, seconded by Trustee Lori MacDonald and passed by voice vote, 4–0; Trustee Paola Jellings was absent.
The Board also elected Ken Chase as clerk and Denis DeFigueiredo as presiding officer, and by motion designated Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi as secretary of the Governing Board for the 2025–2026 term. Each election was made by motion, seconded and approved by a 4–0 voice vote. The Board postponed elections for several external representative roles to the Jan. 21, 2026 meeting so all trustees could participate.
