Board adopts amendment letting each member nominate one finalist for public interviews

On Sept. 24 the Minneapolis Board of Education adopted an amendment to Resolution 2024‑0050 that adds a nomination and interview framework. Director Adriana Cerrillo moved the amendment to insert a clause specifying that “Each Board member may nominate up to 1 finalist (candidate) by 10/29/2024 for a public interview (for a total of up to 8) to take place on 11/7/2024 asking three questions (2 questions to come from the Board Chair and Vice‑Chair and 1 from the Student Representatives).” The amendment passed on a voice vote with Directors Abdul Abdi, Adriana Cerrillo, Collin Beachy and Kim Ellison recorded as aye and Director Lori Norvell recorded as the only nay.
The amendment requires staff to post qualified applicant names and specified application responses for board and public review beginning Oct. 21, 2024, and sets a nomination deadline of Oct. 29, 2024. The Board therefore expects up to eight finalists to be publicly interviewed on Nov. 7; student representatives are explicitly allocated one question for those interviews.
