Council approves $60,000 in nonprofit allocations after brief debate, 4–1

The proposed allocations on the agenda were: Holiday Sharing Fund $2,000; Maddie Williams $14,500; Neighborly Care Network $2,500; Oldsmar CARES $27,000; Oldsmar Friends of the Arts $4,000; and Upper Tampa Bay Chamber special event support $10,000. Vice Mayor Graber moved to keep the same allocations as the prior fiscal year; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll call.
Opponents urged caution. One council member said "tax dollars being used for charity is just not something that I am down with" and recommended cuts if the city's revenues require it next year. Another council member said incremental cuts could give nonprofits notice and avoid sudden fiscal shocks.
Council voted 4 in favor and 1 opposed. The motion passed and staff will implement the allocations as approved.
