"As they were excavating, there were some unsuitable soils ... That resulted in about a $192,000 increase in the cost," the county manager said.
The county manager noted that prior cost savings of $300,000–$400,000 on the project offset the additional expense and that tourism board funds are sharing half of the increased cost. Staff estimated the site will still be completed by the end of October and advised commissioners they wanted to flag the change to avoid surprises later in construction closeout and accounting.
