Curriculum changes proposed: Vocal Jazz replaces Nova; new CTE welding course added

Hamilton described the Cultural Studies department offerings and instructional approach emphasizing proficiency across world languages, music, art and drama. Dr. Coussens-Martin highlighted proposed changes: the district will "sunset Notables/Show Choir and replace it with an a capella vocal jazz group and a madrigal," add a Welding Tech CTE course, expand Intro to Health Occupations to include 9th graders, and pursue Culinary Arts articulated credit with ICC. The district also cited positive metrics on the Illinois School Report Card, including a 91% graduation rate and a 4-point improvement in 9th-grade on-track rates.
