Survey shows parents and staff prefer a smaller, lower-cost referendum focusing on HVAC and school security

An ICS-conducted survey presented Dec. 22 found respondents (primarily parents and staff) overwhelmingly favored a smaller, lower-cost referendum. Top priorities were HVAC, cafeteria/kitchen space, secure entrances, maintenance and parking/drop-off; presenters cautioned the sample is not representative of the full community.
Lori Christenson of ICS presented results of a community survey conducted Nov. 14–Dec. 1, saying respondents strongly supported a smaller, lower-cost referendum package focused on building systems and safety features. “Respondents overwhelmingly support a smaller, lower-cost referendum proposal with top priorities being HVAC, cafeteria/kitchen space, safe/secure entrances, general repairs/maintenance, and adequate parking/drop off,” Christenson said.
Christenson also cautioned the survey reflects the views of parents, staff and those who closely follow the school and should not be treated as statistically representative of the entire community. The board received the presentation as part of referendum and facilities planning; no binding referendum decision was made at the meeting.
