Six Sulphur Springs schools named U.S. News Best Elementary Schools

Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi announced that six Sulphur Springs Union community schools were named U.S. News Best Elementary Schools for 2026, placing within the top 40 percent of California elementary schools.
Dr. Kawaguchi said the rankings were based on the number of students scoring proficient or above proficient in mathematics and English language arts on the 2025 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The six schools recognized were Fair Oaks Ranch, Golden Oak Community School, Leona Cox, Mint Canyon, Pinetree, and Valley View. She credited school leadership, teachers, staff, students and families for the recognition.
The Board congratulated the schools and highlighted the district’s focus on supporting students’ academic, social and emotional needs. The recognition was presented during the hearing session of the Jan. 21 meeting.
