Parks staff report: mulch, irrigation repairs, plantings and fire abatement underway

Parks staff member Nick delivered the operational update, reporting that crews have spread 36 yards of mulch in the main park, planted more than 40 natives in the native garden, replaced irrigation components and are addressing dozens of broken irrigation valves and heads across town. Nick said staff found debris in valves and aging heads that require cleaning or replacement and noted battery‑operated controllers required attention.
Nick also reported the start of contracted fire‑abatement work behind the corporation yard, removal of fallen and dead foliage, and plans for further cleanup that could take another year to complete; he said goats are expected to begin work in coming months to assist with vegetation management. The crew also deployed biological controls for aphids as part of the integrated pest management program.
