“I am the CEO and cofounder of Breakthrough Fit Co, and we are so excited to be opening up our 2nd location right here in New City,” said Jake, introducing the gym and its mission to make fitness accessible to people with a range of abilities, including athletes and people with autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. Supervisor Joy Coleman led the short program announcing the opening and encouraged residents to visit the new space at 88 North Main Street, “right by the bowling alley, the former Goodyear Tire Bowl.”
Why it matters: Owners and officials framed the opening as increasing local access to adaptive fitness and community wellness. Jake and co-owner Steve Goodman described services aimed at multiple ability levels and invited families to an initial complimentary consultation. Dana Thiesing, director of the Rockland County Office for People with Disabilities, spoke on behalf of County Executive Ed Day and highlighted the importance of inclusive fitness opportunities.
