Public Works Director John briefed the Board of Selectmen that installation of precast box culverts at the Highville Road Bridge was scheduled to begin next week but the project has been delayed by manufacturing bottlenecks.
"We're about 2 months behind, due to the manufacturing of the box culverts themselves," John said, explaining that the town is monitoring how quickly contractors can complete work once the boxes are installed and that the schedule could slip into September or October depending on contractor access.
John said he hopes the bridge can be reopened for winter use but emphasized the town must ensure the work is done correctly to achieve long service life for the new structure.
