The Ripon Historic Preservation Commission voted to adopt a restructured local preservation grant program that increases the maximum per-project award to $2,500 and targets arch-top window repair, tuckpointing and masonry preservation. The change was proposed by staff and approved after discussion of scope and budget.
Staff presented the draft program as a more targeted alternative to the existing, broader grant. "The idea here is to make it a little bit more targeted as well as a little bit more money, particularly for arch top windows, tuck pointing, masonry restoration," said the Staff member presenting the proposal. The commission's financial report showed a balance of about $14,758.70.
Committee member moved to adopt the revised program and explicitly proposed changing the draft to set the maximum work per project at $2,500; another member seconded the motion. After brief discussion about coordinating the grant with Main Street programs and outreach, the Chair called the vote and the motion passed. The commission directed staff to finalize application parameters and to consider marketing the program in conjunction with Main Street outreach.
The change replaces a smaller per-project maximum previously noted in past programs; commissioners discussed how the higher cap could better address costly preservation needs on historic façades. Implementation details, including application completeness and whether building-inspector review is required for specific projects, will be clarified in forthcoming application materials.
