The superintendent explained the district redistributed ELOP funds to ensure statewide compliance and to expand access so parents would not need to bus children to a single hub. "We have over 1,000 kids participating now in after‑school programs," she said, adding that Migrant Ed retains access to necessary classrooms and that staff are discussing longer‑term facility plans with the board.
Board members pressed staff on procurement and timeline details, including why the playground purchase occurred last year and whether the board had been apprised of any staff decision not to install it at Huerta. Staff said the purchase was approved previously and that additional board discussion is needed to determine final installation plans; they also said a purchase‑order for storage containers to house the playground temporarily would be ratified at a future meeting.
