BID proposes moving Sunday flea market to James Street block to keep event downtown

Powers described the BID's review of alternatives — the high school parking lot (rejected because of residential impacts), Brown Street and riverfront lots (rejected because of residential or future development constraints), and the James Street garage (rejected due to safety/elevator concerns). He said the BID will work with the city on signage, trash containment and Sunday parking coordination and recommended pilot measures to keep downtown clean. Council members asked about signage specifics and trash pickup; city staff said a street‑closure resolution on the April 14 agenda would allow the market to open on April 21. No formal vote occurred on April 7; staff will return a resolution and signage plan for council approval.
