Maintenance worker urges board to discuss OSBA resolutions publicly; board members explain votes

During the public comment period, maintenance employee and parent Olin West told the board he believed the board did not adequately discuss OSBA resolutions as a group at the November meeting and that attendees (including Boy Scouts) missed out on public deliberation. West said he was "glad that the boy scouts had left the meeting early so they did not experience the lack of interaction/discussion by our Cascade leaders."

Vice Chair Ruth Stevens explained her reasoning for a "no" vote on certain items, saying she evaluates how issues will benefit Cascade students and did not see a direct benefit. Board member Jon Remy acknowledged he could have explained his reasoning better. Superintendent Darin Drill provided context about OSBA’s role — noting internal struggles but underlining the association’s legal and policy support for districts — and suggested the board could re-evaluate its practice of minimizing politics during voting.
