Turner Elementary leaders told the board Jan. 13 that the school is emphasizing literacy instruction and expects staff to be fully trained over the next few years in data-driven literacy strategies, including phonics. Principal Ms. Iverson described the district partnership with Oregon RTI as part of that effort.
Turner Assistant Principal Ms. Cromwell said Turner’s enrollment is up by 10 students and overall attendance rose from 92% to 94%. The minutes record a drop in chronic absenteeism from 21% last year to 16% this year; the assistant principal said tardies remain a morning concern and staff are working with families to address it.
