The recommended policies presented for approval were: 407 (Tobacco-Free Environment); 411 (Staff Hiring); 412 (Employee Background Checks); 414 (Students and Employees with Communicable Diseases and Infectious Conditions); 417 (Employee Right to Know Exposure to Hazardous Substances); 419 (Policies Incorporated by Reference); and 420 (Employee-Student Relationships). The packet included legal citations and a redlined text in each case showing changes.
LeSage and other district staff explained key changes: Policy 412 clarifies background-check requirements, including Mn. Stat. and FBI checks for nonresidents; Policy 407 expanded definitions related to electronic delivery devices and vaping and required vaping prevention instruction for students in grades 6 through 8; Policy 420 reiterated prohibitions on sexual or romantic staff-student relationships and specified reporting responsibilities if concerns arise. The Board packet recommended approval of the policies as presented (policy list and recommended action: SEG 3020'1).
