HR recommends 2025–26 calendar similar to current year; 2026–27 adjusted for late Labor Day
Summary
Human Resources presented recommended calendars: 2025–26 largely mirrors 2024–25 (school start Sept. 2/3, 2025; last student day June 5, 2026). The 2026–27 calendar starts Aug. 31, 2026 to accommodate the late Labor Day and ends June 3, 2027.

Human Resources presented two recommended academic calendars for 2025–26 and 2026–27 after soliciting building-level input. The HR memorandum from Stacie Vos said the district moved away from a standing calendar committee toward broader building staff input.
The 2025–26 calendar mirrors the 2024–25 schedule: kindergarten and select transition grades start Sept. 2, 2025, with other grades beginning Sept. 3; the district moved one Flex Learning Day from Sept. 22 to Dec. 22 to avoid an isolated one-day week in December. The last student day would be June 5, 2026, and staff end on June 8, 2026; the calendar reduces seniors’ days by one relative to prior years (seniors attend 166 days).
Because Labor Day falls unusually late in 2026 (Sept. 8), the 2026–27 proposal staggers starts: Aug. 31, 2026 for kindergarten and some transition grades, Sept. 1, 2026 for all students, and a June 3, 2027 end date; staff would finish June 4, 2027. The HR memo records the contractual and statutory constraints the district considered in building the calendars (teacher contact days, MN statute minimums). The recommendations were presented for Board consideration and follow-up.
