Greenwood Elementary spotlights PLC work and literacy goals at board meeting

Greenwood Elementary staff presented a school spotlight on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) at the Nov. 12 Wayzata board meeting. The presentation, given under the teaching and learning section, emphasized PLC norms, four guiding PLC questions (what students should learn, how the school will know they learned it, interventions for those who have not learned, and extensions for students who have learned), and systems for data dialogue and collaboration.

The school set two measurable goals: increase the percentage of K–5 students achieving fall→spring growth in the “Typical Growth” or “Aggressive Growth” ranges on earlyReading and aReading from 55.9% in spring 2024 to 57.9% in spring 2025; and increase the share of students responding ‘‘almost always/always’’ to a student engagement survey item about classroom discussions by May 31, 2025. Slide text included the literacy aspiration: "We want to be a team that helps all students learn how to read and want to read."
