The committee reviewed a revised district communications strategy that staff said was updated after board feedback and staff turnover and refined with consultant guidance. The presenter said the document is intended as "a working document" that new staff could use and that an annual communications work plan would provide operational detail.
The presenter explained the strategy was first brought to the board in June 2023 and that staff had “incorporated the feedback we received from the board.” The presenter said the strategy aligns actions to the district's strategic focus areas and that the annual work plan would flush out timelines and tasks. "We actually used a consultant that Sean works with just for some guidance," the presenter said.
Committee members emphasized accessibility for customers who do not use digital channels and suggested keeping paper notifications available. One committee member noted the importance of emergency notices as a primary communications channel for residents with limited digital access. Chair moved the item to action: "Can we all put this on action then? This will be on action," the chair said. The presenter said the plan will go through committee review and align with the Park & Rec committee schedule before returning for board consideration.
Next steps: staff will incorporate committee feedback, complete the annual communications work plan that details tasks and timelines, and carry the item through committee review before placement on a future consent or action calendar.
