A planner/solicitor in the meeting summarized the township’s intent: data centers were not contemplated when the zoning code was written, and the ordinance would explicitly recognize the use and require an applicant to seek a use variance rather than allowing it by-right. "This ordinance simply recognizes the use and spells that out and says that they have to apply... that it's not a permitted use anywhere in the town," a staff advisor said.
The committee voted to carry the second reading and public hearing to October 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the same meeting room to ensure planner participation and joint-land-use-board review.
