Township finance staff reported the sale of a bond anticipation note on July 28 that raised $1,184,491 at an interest rate of 3.7575 and will mature on April 30, 2027. Officials said the shorter maturity reflected this year’s note-sale rules and staff plans to review whether to issue an official statement next year.
"The bond anticipation sale took place on July 28, and we came in with an interest rate of 3.7575," a township finance presenter said, adding that the maturity was deliberately shortened to 04/30/2027 to comply with recent note-sale procedural changes. Committee members asked how the proceeds would be spent, and staff identified the 2016 and 2022 road programs, operation of the Pine Highlands Municipal Park Cemetery and the acquisition of a fire truck as primary uses.
The presenter explained that new regulations limit no-statement note sales for issues over $1,000,000 to 270 days and that the township chose that route for administrative simplicity. The committee acknowledged the budgetary tradeoffs and had no further questions, voting to carry the item forward in the consent business.
Next steps: staff said they will include this borrowing in routine financial reporting and reassess the official-statement option for future issues.
