Gambier rolls out new GIS asset management after interns map hydrants and meters

Village Administrator Courtney DeCoskey told council on Aug. 3 that interns and staff completed a centralized asset-management system designed to improve recordkeeping, maintenance and Ohio EPA reporting. "Grace and Josie exceeded expectations this summer, and we are incredibly grateful for the detailed work they have completed with such care and dedication," DeCoskey said.
The report said staff located and mapped key infrastructure and standardized ID numbers. The inventory lists "All 107 Village hydrants—discovering 32 hydrants missing from previous Village records," and documents about 214 water valves and approximately 300 pit meters as part of a water-loss audit. The administrator said the project added automated, GIS-integrated work orders and a digital purchase requisition workflow to improve field-to-office coordination and emergency-event reporting. Council materials said the changes are intended to bring village records into compliance with Ohio EPA asset-management and emergency-response requirements.
