District 3 commissioner: residents ‘‘sick and tired’’ after six-year Cedar Grove Bridge delay

Commissioner Nicole Messiah (District 3) told attendees she took office with a promise to complete the Cedar Grove Bridge and that residents had been waiting far longer than expected. "When I see Doctor Riesby, she's like, yeah. 2 years. It took 6, but we are here now, and that's all that matters," Messiah said, referencing original schedule expectations and the eventual reopening.
Messiah said the bridge reconnects neighborhoods, families and businesses and restores a vital corridor for commerce in South DeKalb. She acknowledged that some residents were displaced by the project and said the county must deliver infrastructure with urgency, transparency and smarter planning so communities do not again endure prolonged delays.
