District removes $200k contract as The Next Door plans independent program at Kelly Avenue School

CFO Randy Anderson told the committee the district has discontinued its contract with The Next Door, Inc., which had been operating the Kelly Avenue School program serving roughly a dozen students. "The contract we previously held with them was just over $200,000," Anderson said, and that amount has been removed from the district’s Function 1284 budget line, contributing to a reduction of more than $300,000 in that function.
Anderson said The Next Door has proposed to continue operating two classrooms independently and expand the day-treatment component where Oregon Health Plan billing is available for eligible students; the district emphasized that some students might instead return to The Dalles High School or the Innovations Academy depending on need. District staff noted uncertainty about whether the new independent program would begin in time for the coming school year.
