Mosier Community School reports enrollment growth, seeks construction funds for HVAC upgrades

Dawkins reported 167 students in 2023–24 with projections of 185 for 2024–25 and said MCS has added a third middle‑school classroom and hired a new teacher. The school launched a preschool using ESSER funds that grew from 4 students to 13 this year (the presentation noted full sustainability at 15 students). Dawkins said MCS received a $15,000 grant to revamp its school garden and reported an $868,000 Oregon Department of Education grant for construction work, including HVAC upgrades that are expected to be operational by July 10 if the full grant is awarded.
Board members heard that approximately 85% of MCS’s budget goes to staffing, that curriculum alignment and behavior management remain priorities, and that the D21 superintendent has supported the school’s efforts. The board will consider representation on the D21 Education Foundation during its organizational meeting in July.
