North Wasco County SD 21 adopts $64.7 million budget, sets $5.2399 tax levy

The North Wasco County School District 21 Budget Committee voted unanimously May 13 to approve the district’s 2025–2026 budget in the aggregate amount of $64,700,318 and to levy ad valorem property taxes at $5.2399 per $1,000 of taxable assessed value in support of the general fund. The motion was moved by Budget Member Molly Rogers and seconded by Budget Member Jared Gosson; Budget Chair Anthony Pereira presided.
CFO Randy Anderson told the committee the budget numbers include one-time capital spending, notably seismic work at the Chenowith facility, and therefore do not all represent ongoing operational costs. "Without those one-time capital costs, the numbers would look quite different," Anderson said, explaining why per-student costs vary between school sites. He also warned that potential losses of federal Title II and Title III grant funding would require the district to absorb ongoing program costs in the general fund.
The committee’s approval formalizes spending authority for the coming fiscal year and the stated tax levy; the adopted budget and levy will go into effect for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025. The committee did not record any opposing votes or abstentions.
