Chair Cynthia Wright recapped a recent town hall on student cell-phone use and summarized the top five topics raised by participants. Directors said parents emphasized access to phones during emergencies; some directors cited evidence in Jonathan Haidt’s book Anxious Generation regarding youth mental-health impacts; staff solutions that are working and the difficulty of managing policy in classrooms were also discussed.
The Board did not take action at the Nov. 21 meeting. Chair Wright directed that the Board will review the full survey results and Town Hall feedback at the Dec. 5 work session before deciding next steps.
